History of Longines company began back in 1832 when a young man Augusto Agassiz opned a small workshop in St. Imier , Switzerland. This place stood close to the place named Les Longines, Augusto liked the name so much so hi decided to name his company after the place Longines.

In 1854 his nephew Ernest took control over the company. So basically what they did is what now called “family” or “home business”. Longines was selling watches of not their ownmanufacture. Longines workers worked at their homes under mechanisms and other part. Then wathches were delivered to Augusto and he sold them under name “Longines” wathes. But the whole company name nowadays is “Longines Watch Company. Francillon Ltd.”
